I've been playing for over 6 months and I've gotten a total of 1 socket wrench, and I do lots of boss fights and dungeons. This is pretty absurd. The bad thing about the way jewel sockets work is that the wrenches are so rare that basically you never use jewels until you hit max level because it makes no sense to waste a socket wrench jewel on a piece of gear that you soon out-level. So I would never pay crowns to open a socket on anything but max level gear and given how rare wrench drops are, I'll save any wrenches I get for max level gear.
So that mean all the sockets and all the jewels for less than max level gear is totally useless.
