Your PVP rating has to go up to a certain level. You increase your PVP rating by winning more than losing. Very vague I know-I don't know the specific numbers and have no suggestions for strategies as it depends on level and school.

To become a knight you must have a PvP ranking of 650-699.
Private- 0-524
Corporal- 525-549
Sergeant- 550-599
Veteran- 600-649
Knight- 650-699
Captain- 700-799
Commander- 800-899
Warlord- 900+

You gain anywhere from around 10-20 points if you win a match (Can't remember exact numbers). Doing 1v1 will give you the least points per win though. Although it is the easiest to compete in.

If you would desire to become a PVP Knight, I would consider, Practice or asking someone who is a knight or passed one for information and help.

Practice will not allow you to become a Knight. You must do Ranked PVP for PVP Rating to increase. Getting advice from players who have earned Knight or above is a good strategy though.
