What will happen to my old pet when i hatch?

Will i still get my old pet back or will it disappear? Cuase i'm not sure if this pet will turn out well or not and i'm paying a lot of money sooo what?
I don't want Sparky to die over hatching. Its kinda sad. :(

Nothing will happen to your old pet. You'll simply gain an egg in your backpack as a result of the hatch.
