I recently learned that dispels consume your pips while you fizzle. I never knew this as I have never had one used on me (fire). I went to sun serpent (my usual strategy) but going second, my opponent used a fire dispel. The round after ALL my pips were gone... This is a really good method to use on someone else, but not good for the victim XD.
