Life wizards can be a valuable asset to any team and can also be successful soloing the game and one of the great things about them is the ability to critical while healing. Of course any wizard has a chance to do this, Balance especially with Helping Hands and Availing Hands, but Life is usually much more productive. Life school represents a mastery of the art of healing and with that also should come a better understanding of the effects and causality of disease and damage. I think Life wizards should also have the innate ability to cause a "Critical Infection" any time an opponent casts a heal spell, cutting the effectiveness of the spell by 1/2. Also, the ability to critical block any time an opponent criticals on a heal spell, reducing the spell back to normal strength.

Then it wouldn't be life.

The spell already exists which removes -50% healing effectiveness with death.
Giving life a -50% to next healing spell on opponent wouldn't make it life. life is supposed to supposed to be a corner shop for those who need healing ( lol jk )
But giving life any thing to make an opponent weaker would probably go against it's natural state (except for attacks)
Life spells as you can see include nothing to make an opponent weaker except for a Dispel.

I understand what you're saying but by this reasoning Life should not be able to inflict any damage at all. And I'm not proposing that the Infection would occur on the next heal, I'm saying it could be a percentage "chance" just like a critical hit. It would be rare at best but would be possible. Maybe starting at 1% at level 10 and increasing 1% every ten levels after that ... at level 100 there would be a maximum 10% chance. I don't see something like that being too OP.
