SOS Pet Hatching Problems

I am having hatching problems.

If I cross a pet with another pet and say its an ice cat with another pet, how can I guarantee (or at least give myself a good chance) that I will get the trait? Say Fairy friend?

I am having much trouble right now trying to just get the trait on my pets.

There is no way to guarantee any trait from either parent.

Well, it happened already. It was a hack. I say this on my video camera. Some guy made this breed of a Meow Wing + Gnome = Jade Oni?
