why 2 lines for damage and resistance with jewels?

if my damage is say 86/10 is that 96?

Or?

So what would my damage be?

Hello,

The top line represents percentages and the bottom line is flat numerical additions.

@Prof. Greyrose, there are scores of people who are still confused because of the recent shift to flat damage bonuses--they still believe it is a percentage boost, because for years that's all gear did was boost percentages.

Old habits die hard. Why not have an NPC explain it in the game so there's less confusion?

So, say my stats were 76% storm damage. If I were to socket a +5 damage jewel, would my damage be 81% damage or would it go to.. Say 78% damage? I am very confused, please help me find an answer.

The jewels aren't changing your % at all. You still have +76% storm damage. It's just adding 5 more damage onto your attack.

(Your spell damage + enchantment if you have one) X gear boost % bonus
Then add damage from the jewel
Then whatever buffs you have cast.

So if it was a tempest with 6 pips, colossal, and a 30% blade in your example it would be like this:

(((6x80+275) X 1.76)+5) X 1.3 = 1734

That might round down a point or two because of the way calculations are done in combat.
