Um, just out of question, why is the kraken spell like, a storm monster with lighting, when the myth/legend kraken is a gigantic collousall squid/octopus thing?

Not all kraken are portrayed as an octopus or squid, and this is a fantasy game, after all. :)

The "kraken" in the spell animation is not actually a kraken, but a nereid of the genus Anabates. These creatures have been sold in pet shops and bazaars under the folk name "kraken" for some time and the misnomer has stuck.

These reptiles are distantly related to sea turtles and have a thick, leathery, water-resistant skin. Under the skin is a layer of insulating fat to protect from cold and electric shocks.

They breathe air and don't have gills. However, they can dive for long periods of time before they need to come up for air.

While they do not have a carapace and plastron like turtles, they do have a number of segmented horn plates under the skin, set in rows along their back and abdomen. They also have clawed, webbed hands and feet like most turtles. This allows them to spend long periods of time out of water and gives them a prehensile grip, so they make excellent wizard pets.

All utility "krakens" are various subspecies or strains of the common rock nereid, A. electrophorus. All types may interbreed and make great and resourceful pets, but are only weakly electrogenic, with the notable exception of A. e. optio, the classic attack kraken.

True krakens belong to the giant squid family and are unsuitable as pets because of their size (15-800 m from tip to tip) and their highly aggressive, territorial, and antisocial temperament (e.g. Luska). They are also strictly aquatic, making for a highly impractical pet.

Hope that helps!
