Many wizards spend little time considering wards as a part of their spell selection when creating a deck. I am guilty of that in most cases. We spend much more time on building to do maximum damage and speed up the battle.
I have an idea for improved ward spells where the ward would still reduce the damage inflicted by the enemy by 50%, 70%, 85% or whichever you choose to use. The improved ward would reflect a port of that 'absorbed' damage back at the caster. These improved wards would cost a pip to cast, but would offer more function.
Example: A regular balance school elemental shield (fire/storm/ice at 50% each) would reduce the damage you take by 50%, meaning 50% gets through. The improved ward would reflect half of that damage back, or 25% of the total damage.
This could be further improved by adding an enchantment for wards, like the sharpened blade or potent trap. It could be called "reflective shield', or something like that.

Interesting idea and it sounds good but would the reflected damage trigger feints and traps? If so it would add an entirely new level of strategy that would need to be considered prior to casting the enhanced ward. It would be a bad thing if there was a trap/feint set up already placed and this was triggered by a reflected wand or personal spell.
My initial reaction is yes, it would likely have to trigger them. That would definitely reduce the attraction to the idea, but would also add some complexity.
