If Bartleby could see the future, then he should have seen that Malistaire and even Morganthe would try to conquer the Spiral. He and Ambrose would have captured Malistaire and even Morganthe looong before any of this ever happened.

But isn't there a reason why they wouldn't? Cyrus, maybe? And people can always change their minds, nobody, not even bartleby, can predict the exact future.

Oooh, Forever the future is in motion. It changes young padawan wizard, clouded by the dark forces it is.

I'm sure that since the future is always changing, there is no way they could've know what would happen in the future.

Wizards are a particularly difficult group to predict. We tend to have erratic natures as a result of handling all that power. And like normal humans, we have free choice. I'm sure Bartleby was hoping that Malistaire and Morganthe would make wiser choices.

That doesn't make any sense.

All will be clear when one is at peace. Clear your mind young wizard, let the power of the mana flow through you.

You have seem to have forgotten or have not done the quest of where you go pour a potion onto Bartleby thats before you get the use of the spiral. Rememeber, he's no young sapling anymore. He's what you might call extremely, extremely OLD.

Oh, there are many versions of the past, present, and future in the Great Spiral. The multiverse is, perhaps, an infinite loop, the Oroborus of the world, forever creating confusion, conundrum, consternation.

Seriously though, Grandmother Raven and Bartleby are older than time, Merle is their first student, and he is very, very, very old. IF he is, as I suspect, actually Merlin/Emris, he lives backward. Perhaps he has yet to live that experience in our version of the Spiral.

Oh, it's so wonderfully confusing :)

Translating from Yoda to English he means that Bartleby can see the future but that doesn't mean that things can't change or go wrong. So possibly something didn't happen the way Bartleby thought it would.
