Xibalba (Part 3) by Fallon Redsword

"You have grown in power, wizard. I am impressed," Morganthe says, scanning me from head to toe. "So much impressed, you could join me."

"Why would I do that? If you destroy the Spiral, where are you to reside?"

"Once again, you are misinformed. Who said I was destroying it?" Morganthe asks, acting surprised. "I am merely changing it for the better."

"Morganthe, you need to stop this madness."

"Silly child, it seems I have already begun. I will leave Neza the Poet to take care of you. And guess what? He has a hungry friend."

I am caught into a battle with Neza the Poet - and friends - which strikes fear into my heart. How can I win against two bosses, with loads of attacks? How can I face someone seven times my health?

With pure determination, I defeat the conjurer and diviner, and feel relieved to escape the pyramid and return to the water, even with its chilling state.

I had bested Morganthe again, but I know I can't hold her off forever.

I fulfill my importance in Pitch Black Lake, and the Floating Mountains (which is just a couple boss fights), and finally, I am granted access to Twin Giants, the last place of duty in Azteca.

I rescue the queen, fight enemies, a few bosses, and suddenly, I am back to Pacal Redmask, the bird who had pushed me to be my best. The bird, who inevitably, will come to an end.

The last boss I had to fight in Azteca (in the Mangrove Marsh) gave me great joy - I was informed this was the end. I finish the battle with an overkill, just as I usually do, and I return to the Zocalo, where Pacal Redmask waits anxiously, fluttering his feathers as if cold, though the heat is immense.

"You've done it, Fallon Redsword! You've really done it!"

"It was an honor to help. I must say, I am disappointed to be leaving."

"Well," Pacal says hesitantly. "This isn't the end. Morganthe is still planning to destroy us with Xibalba, and she will do so tomorrow."

"What?" I gasp, stomach dropping.

"I am sorry I did not tell you. The news just came in recently."

"I understand," I say.

"You may do as you please for the rest of today, but you must set foot on Xibalba no later than dawn."

"I will be back at that time," I promise, turning away, like I did to Ethan.
