|My first day in the spiral
I was having a boring summer, my family hardly went anywhere, and when they did, it was to either go shopping for groceries or to go to the park to walk our dog, Rocket. I was reading a book about magic and wizards and medieval times, thinking what life would be like if lived 500 years ago. I just finished reading about dragons when I heard a knock at my front door.
“Jason, can you go get the door, I’m checking my e-mail!” my mom asked from upstairs.
“Sure!” I said and ran to the door. I unlocked the door and opened it to see a tall, old man with a grey beard. He was wearing a wizard like hat, a robe with stars on them, and he had a long staff with a glowing gem at the top of it.
“Hello.” said the old man.
“Hi.” I said, “Um, wow, Halloween already, well we don’t have any candy but, um, we got some popsicles in the freezer.”
“I’m not here for candy, but a tasty treat would be nice.” said the old man as we raised his wand slightly in the air and POOF! A muffin appeared in his hand and he began to eat it.
“Um, I see that you’re not from around here.” I said closing the door.
The old man walked in before I closed the door and looked at me and asked, “Are you Jason DarkFlame?”
“Yes, I am.” I answered, “And you are?”
“Oh dear me, I forgot to introduce myself, I’m Merle Ambrose, headmaster of the Ravenwood School of Magic.”
“And I’m Poseidon! God of the sea, I sink ships and create waves.” I said sarcastically.
“If you do not believe me, then I guess I must show you some, magic.” said Merle as he raised his staff. The gem at the top of the staff glowed, light surged out of the staff and a huge burning cat appeared right in front of me.
“Never saw that before.” I said.
‘This is a fire cat.” he said as he sucked the cat back in his wand.
“I think I believe you now.” I said, “Now, why are you here?”
“To enroll you into the Ravenwood School of Magic, I’ve already packed your bags, now let’s go.”
“But my mom wouldn’t want me to go to-”
POOF! I now was in someone’s messy office.
“Sorry for the mess, spring cleaning.” Merle said.
“Look Mr. Headmaster guy, you can’t just teleport me to some place without even asking if I want to go.”
“You had to come.” said Merle, “Me, and the teachers of Ravenwood have chosen you to save the spiral and defeat Malistaire.”
“Well, I have a lot of explaining I see, the spiral holds a cluster of worlds, such as Wizard City, where we are, Krokotopia, Marleybone, Mooshu, Dragonpyre, and Grizzleheim.” answered Merle, “And Malistaire was the professor of Death, one of the seven schools of Magic. He is plotting to rule the spiral for reasons beyond my knowledge. It happened after his wife, Sylvia Drake, died from an illness.”
“Wow, all that happened in one day?”
“One year.” Merle corrected, “And we need your help to defeat him.
“Why me?” I asked, “How am I special? I never was, and never will be.”
“Don’t speak like that.” Merle said, “Everyone is special, and this is your reason.”
“Okay.” I said, “Where is this Malistaire, I’m ready to save the spiral, I think.”
“Not yet.” said Merle, “First, we must find out your school.”
