I think that there should be a bridge between the current Mount and Pet system, as there are really so many COOL looking Mounts that would look sweet as pets and a bunch of cool looking pets that would look Sweet as Mounts.
A Mount-Pet would when equipped be treated as both a Mount (+40% Speed) and a Pet (+Whatever stats it has). When you enter battle or a building it shrinks to Pet size, and outside buildings and battles it is full blown battle size. Perhaps the Pet age after Epic could give +1 Talent and +Mount Status (for the Pets that gain Mountability (Cats, Hounds, Phoenixes, etc)). For pets that would look SILLY riding (Piggles, wraiths, etc) it could have a +Mount-Transform, where you become a Wizard-Sized version of your pet outside of battle.
And perhaps all these 'Crowns Only' mounts can also be treated as pets. This would give a 'reason' to purchase it other than its Looks. Imagine having a Charity Meowmodon beside you in battle!
Note: A 'Wings' Mount pet could turn into mini-you with the wings for Pet appearance (basically Preview of you with wings).
