I think the crafters should tell people clearly that they need to have the crafted items in their inventory when they turn in the quest. That would reduce the confusion and frustration people get when they can't complete the quest even though they crafted all the items and are told that they need to make them again when they come to the forums to ask for help.

I don't disagree with your point but in most cases the crafting instructor clearly says, and I'll paraphrase, "I need you to make for me two whatevers... once you've proven you can do that you'll be ready to advance to the next challenge". It is sort of implied that you need to make the items and show them to him to prove you've done it. In order to do that the items need to be in your inventory. I understand that some people might inadvertently sell the items, but any crafted item is clearly marked as such when you view it in your inventory list and that should be fair warning not to sell it. Also, if someone does make a mistake like this it should only happen once. Kind of like sticking your hand on a hot stove top... it should only happen once.

Now that they've added the backpack lock feature, it shouldn't ever happen.
I think at some point, we need to teach people to read context clues. In the real world - yes, this is a kids' game, but eventually these kids will be not kids - people assume that if you've been told to do something that you will be prepared to prove it.
Maybe I'm just grumpy this morning, but I'm over the handholding.
