When this game was released, someone had an idea. There would be a place with a wizard's college teaching people how to cast spells. There would be a bad guy, a former teacher at the college. The entire plot was simple and one that has been done in a number of different ways in fantasy literature and movies - snag some poor soul, drag that person into the universe, and have them go save the world and kill off the bad guy.
It worked. We start by meeting Ambrose, learning spells, killing Malistair.
But that storyline has a finite ending and would have worked better as a game installed on one's computer. A game that, when finished, would probably be uninstalled.
However because it's online and online games can't have endings or customer's leave, the storyline has been expanded, the game is expanding.
Now, I think, it's time to look at a redesign of the main story line somewhat.
It gets extremely boring to level a character up the same way every single time. There's only one path - wizard city, krok, marlybone, mooshu... eventually kill Malistair.
Do it enough and you don't even watch the game any more, you just level. You already know the answers to all the puzzles, your entire focus is either wasting time or getting a high level character for some reason.
So let's have a secondary storyline that newbies can start with, and a different path people can follow to take a level 1 up to max level. No reason to make either the Malistair line or the new one exclusive, and no reason to change the fact that people have to open the current worlds up by doing the existing quests.
Wizard city can be the starting point for the new story line. Maybe there's a new area that can be opened up in one of the caves that aren't that the new storyline starts in. Or maybe we can go visit the Wizard city sewers to start it. Maybe it could start in a lot of different ways. But something new needs to be added so that new characters have a completely different story to experience if desired.
