Just realized this last night... Wizard101 and Star Wars have pretty much the same exact plot. Basically, Merle Ambrose is the Obi Wan Kenobi of Wizard101. He trains Morganthe (Anakin Skywalker), whom then turns to the Dark Side because he is convinced that it can save his wife (Malistaire). Then, under the training of Obi Wan Kenobi, Luke (your wizard) defeats his father and Emperor Palpatine (Old Cob?). Basically:
Merle Ambrose - Obi Wan Morganthe/Malistaire - Anakin Skywalker Sylvia Drake - Padme Amadala You - Luke Skywalker Emperor Palpatine - Old Cob
Again, this is just a connection. I am in no way saying that Kingsisle meant to do this or anything of that matter.

The comparison is usually to the Legend of King Arthur not Star Wars. Merlin, Morgan le Fae, etc., and the obvious world of Avalon. KI drew on many film, music and actual location references in the game.
It's a stretch. Merle is still around unlike Obi Wan. Merle Ambrose didn't train Malistaire, like Obi Wan trained Anakin. Morganthe really doesn't fit into your comparison at all and she was trained by Malistaire. Luke doesn't defeat the Emperor, his father does, so by your comparison, Malistaire needs to come back and take out Cob for us.
Epic stories and mythos all share common plot points. Wizard101 is more based off Arthurian myth while incorporating Greek, Japanese, Chinese, and various others in bits and pieces along with Harry Potter and some SciFi stories. It's a big mishmosh of cultural and pop referrences and puns from different genres from all over the world. Star Wars is pretty firmly based in Samurai legend and lore but set in a SciFi setting.
