I've noticed that card holders show "sideboard" and a number beside it. What is it refering to?

I thought it was the number of cards that will be laid out during battle. But I found out I was wrong.

thanks in advance

The sideboard holds cards from your wand and any cards that your jewelry, clothing and pets may give you.

Next time you open your deck, look on the bottom left and you will see a certain number of slots.

That is your sideboard. You can control what appears in your sideboard by equipping different items. As you mentioned, different decks have different numbers of sideboard slots.
