how do gems work

i got a gem that is 40 blade shadow does it work on the glowbug squall seeing i use one shadow pip to use it does it c

count to be a shadow spell for the blade to work

Nope, only for pure shadow spells that the shadow blade work for: shadow wands, the two pip shadow spells.
