I am already planning on buying a mount, but is there anything else that would be conisdered "very helpful" from the crown store while just starting the game?

Depends on your school. Check out the Pets and even the Apparel. I never buy anything from the Crown Shop, I just never want anything from them. Its all unappealing to me, that's just my opinion. The things they sell for Crowns are just a bit useless to me, unless you are just starting I suppose. Keep in mind that Areas cost Crowns too, there is an area buying Guide if you want to check it out just Google it.
