......and no Nightmare mount.

That's approximately 326 packs bought and no mount...

Is this even supposed to happen? KI really needs to adjust the odds on these packs.

Remember not to be irresponsible. Spending this much money just on a single pack is very unwise. Gambling can become an addiction, and while Wizard101 is not a casino, the card packs are a gamble and you know well going in your odds.

I'm sorry this happened but if you look at one of KI's fan sites such as http://www.wizard101central.com/wiki/Item:Nightmare_Pack (sorry, I don't know if I made that selectable) you can see that the nightmare pack is one of the larger hoard packs in the game. Trust me, I tried like you did and didn't get any mounts either.

Is it needed that much or can you settle for a different mount?

Yes I can back ya up on that one. I spent an embarrassing amount also. I did get the white mount, finally, but I have tried SO many times for the green one and many crowns later, nothing. I have only seen a couple of them so it is indeed rare. I collect the horse mounts and even have an island for them. Someday when I am rich, maybe but then so will be KingsIsle, lol. Yes I do wish the amount was made a bit easier. Losing heart and stopping all pack purchases because of chronic disappointment is I am not sure what their intent is.

Also,

I know I am going to get some flack from people on these boards stating "90k crowns! You know what you could have bought with all that?"

My response is, yes I am well aware of what I could have bought with this, but I have been waiting all year for the Nightmare packs, and getting my crowns in order so as "not to fail" on getting this mount and other items from this pack.

But I am seriously dismayed here! That is A LOT of cash I have spent on this game only to basically be told "Sorry, try again later or buy more crowns!"

Are the odds of getting this mount, or even the Cloudstrider (which I also didnt get) really more than 1 in 326 packs?

I know it is 1 in 100 every time you open one, but mathematically this isnt possible lol. Professor, can you respond here? I have spent a lot of money on this game...

It is a chance to get it but you should not spend that much money on crowns just to spend them all on one pack.

After about 50 packs, it's time to stop throwing your money down the drain. You might of not been lucky that day, it happens. Maybe spend your crowns on something you are guaranteed to get like gear, rather than taking your chances...

There really needs to be some limit. KI needs to understand that while yes, they are making a massive profit off this, can you imagine how many kids this made upset and made them quit? They could still be making money off of these kids, instead they're done for. I don't like the idea of Hoard Packs, it's a move that's one step closer to making Wizard101 a Pay-to-Win game.

Sorry this happened to you, but it is just a small chance. I spent 5,000 crowns trying for skyvern and didn't get it, and my sister got it on first try. (but she got it on test, unfortunatley.)

I agree with this.

While you should never spend more than you're comfortable losing, most kids don't know what that amount is unless they are told. And how many kids realize that they're playing for a *chance* to get that rare item? The internet is no substitute for good parenting, and that's why parents need to ensure that their little ones read the fine print before purchasing anything.

I enjoy the occasional hoard pack, as I am an adult and purchase them responsibly. But I have to admit that I don't like where this game is headed~ there is a such a focus on Crowns now, that those of us who choose time over money are not fairly compensated.

KI needs to scale back a bit, maybe limit packs to holidays or special site events, and focus on fixing the real problems this game faces: uneven PvP matches, overpowered enemies, and unbalanced Crowns vs. Time rewards.

There have been 7 or so packs released since Azteca's release, and I will not be surprised if, in the next world, we'll be able to bypass entire worlds or purchase levels and spells for Crowns. I love this game, KI, but when (or if) that day comes, I'll be gone for good.

Kingsisle took my credit card numbers and stole my money! When a customer spends a certain amount of money the system should make sure that they have been taken care of because they are a good customer and spent so much money!
I believe Kingsisle owes everyone that spent more then $50.00 on nightmare packs an apology and some kind of compensation for this highway robbery! On top of that kingsisle has over 30 houses and a depressing lack of furniture and decorations for them! I check the Bazzar several times a day, I bought all the furniture in the crown shop as well as every town furniture shop. some places do not even have a furniture shop! I would be willing to pay for more furniture but there is none! There are thousands of items in game used as set props to decorate levels and areas that people could use to decorate there homes but there unavailable to the public !?
How much money dose it cost to get treated right? If a customer comes to you and says there unhappy don't you have an obligation to correct that? what ever happened to customer service and the customer is always right?

The idea of Kingsisle continuing to milk the kids is disgusting.

They are hoarding hoard packs and I have had enough. While paper does grow on trees, the leaves do not immediately turn into money!
We can't all a afford a monthly payment AND all these crowns!!!

Using the words "Took my credit card and stole my money" is a bit inflammatory. You knew going into the purchase that the good stuff was chance only. Granted I would love for the odds to change to a little more in our favor but I still know that this is a gamble and I have only myself to blame of the odds do not fall in my favor. I have been lucky and managed to get a mount, one each year. I would love to be able to collect all the horses but I am not rich enough to play the odds to that level. Now I just need the two lava horses, at least I think there are only two. But regardless as ridiculous as the odds are, we still knew from the beginning that this is a chance system. No one stole anything. You played the odds and you didn't get what you wanted.......yet.
The only fault is your own for being a poor sport. You, we, walk into this with our eyes wide open hoping we will get a cool mount for 400 crowns, Well sometimes it happens, most often it doesn't. KingsIsle understands human nature and our tendency to try "one more time". They are here to make money as is their right. No one lied to you. All that stuff you got sells for gold. No none hoodwinked you. It's why they call it chance.

Both to the person who started the thread, and to Grizzly Bear:

Wow, that is so sad! Disappointing that you did not get what you wanted when you gambled to get it.

But buying pack is a gamble, and KI is up front about that. Gambling, by the way, is almost always a better deal for the casino than it is for the gambler. It is designed to make money for the casino. Gambling can also be quite addictive and dangerous for some people -- people have ruined their lives by not being able to stop trying for the next chance of a reward.

I too have at times spent a lot of money buying packs, because I wanted a particular item. This time around, I got the green-winged mount after a few packs. So the chance of getting it does exist. But in the past I have not been so lucky, and wasted money, and got frustrated.

Even so, I never blamed KI for my choice of spending money on packs. Nobody at KI made me buy the crowns; nobody made me buy the packs instead of reliable items from the crown shop. I chose the gamble, because that gamble was fun, and the reward seemed worth it.

Blaming others for your own choices is a sure path to upset in life, and a hallmark of addictive behavior. While I understand the upset, the choice to gamble, with all its possible outcomes, is entirely your own.

As far as keeping kids safe, I am a parent, and I limit the amount of crowns my daughter gets. If she makes this kind of gamble and gets upset, I have this same conversation with her, so she can learn the consequences of her choices. So far, it has worked great, and she has been happy with the choices she has made, whether or not she got what she wanted.

I got 15000 crowns and spent about 1000 on packs, I was rather lucky this time and got :
NEARLY a full set of armour from the nightmare pack(a hat, a robe and two pairs of boots, but neither were the right boots)

about a billion pets

two witchs brooms

lots of furniture

11 one day mounts (3 pairs of bat wings, 2 or three brooms, 3 black stallions,2 horned gliders or whatever they're called, and one purple glider)

AND FINALLY:

THE NIGHTRUNNER (permanent mount)

other times I have only gotten 5000 crowns and have also spent the majority on packs but I often never got good items

so I think it might be based on the amount of times you buy the pack.

hope my theory and experience helps you somehow

in regards to what everyone has said, gambling is a choice. it can be addictive, disappointing, rewarding(VERY RARELY THOUGH), and even fun in some ways. it all depends on who is gambling. children who decide to try there luck with the hoard packs I would guess almost always don't have en exact idea of the chances of them getting what they want, they just see someone on a super cool mount and then they think they have a chance really good chance to get it to.

its deception, sure SOMEONE has to be a winner but the chances in these hoard packs are about the same as picking 1 card out of 200 and every time you pick a card they get reshuffled.
finn does have a point though, its your choice to try your luck or not and no one can make you, aside of course from your children who beg you for crowns when you have no idea that they are gonna gamble them away unless of course you ask what for.

it truly all comes down to whether or not the person who is gambling knows what the chances are, it could be deception or it could be you knew the odds and you had bad luck.

To The Grizzly Bear: " 90% of the people agree that they have been robed. KI please stop cherry picking comments."
Your quote is way off. You need to look at this thread again and seriously recalculate. I for one am not a KI employee and neither are the others. We all have a history in these boards and we know who the employees are. KI does not cherry pick their comments, I have seen lots of negative comments show up here. As long as it complies with the terms and code of conduct messages make it here. You really need to calm down and take some responsibility for your actions instead of blaming others for it.

While you bring up valid points that this is a case of wrecklessness, that wrecklessness is a demonstration of how KI uses these to take advantage of kids. These kids don't know better, so now they are gambling.

Anyone find it ironic how a family-friendly game is encouraging gambling? Even you admit it is gambling, after all.

Point well-taken: it is odd that family-friendly gaming encourages gambling, when you put it that way. Although I have been at many church fairs that do so as well, so maybe not that odd.

As far as taking advantage of kids goes, however, well, yes and no.

Yes: Some kids are given crowns and don't have much supervision or input from their parents in what happens in the game. Some kids don't know better, fair enough. And perhaps KI needs to be more responsible in either making Very clear how packs work, or limiting the number of packs a person can purchase in a day, because in reality not all parents engage their kids in how they play or what they are doing.

No: 1) Some kids, like my own child who plays, fully understand that buying a card pack is no guarantee of getting any particular item. She still is usually satisfied, because what she gets she mostly puts to use -- she likes getting housing stuff and decorating, she likes changing clothing fashion, and she is really excited when she gets one of the rare but really good items in a pack. It is kind of like a grab bag at a yard sale, mostly junk, the occasional treasure, relatively cheap so a once in a while purchase like this is fun. Seen like this, a pack is taking advantage of no one. Being involved with kids and educating them about what they are doing is very important. It is interesting that my child, who has played for several years like this, starting at menu chat age and moving on up, has not once complained she was cheated when buying a pack.

Where the problem arises is when a person is attached to that one rare item and thinks that is what they are buying. Then you can get into situations like the one that started this post.

2) From what I can tell, neither the person who started this post, nor the loudest complainers in the post, are children. In fact, no child is even able to buy crowns without some adult giving them the means to do so, i.e., providing the credit card. So behind the "kids being taken advantage of" there is always an adult who is responsible for the finances.

So perhaps KI should be more clear about how packs work (though every single one italicizes and emphasizes the words "a chance" to get any item). Perhaps, too, they should limit the number of packs in a day. Personally, I like being able to buy however many I want, so I'm not really for that second option, but I can see it is reasonable. Perhaps they should limit the number of cheap items in a pack, and thereby raise the chances of getting really good ones -- an option I do like. These are all very reasonable suggestions.

Perhaps, too, it is also reasonable that the "responsible adults" behind the crowns purchases, could actually be responsible -- for their own choices, and for being involved in the choices of their kids.
