What are hybrid pets?

I happen to be looking at fansites and they were talking about hybrid pets. If someone could explain to me what they are and how you get them? Thanks

Hybrids are the results of hatching your pet with another pet. The results can be the same pet with different stats, or if possible, a new kind of pet called a hybrid. Someone left a link to all the known hybrids.
