Are we supposed to get a pet starting at level 58 when we start getting our school spells? I've been playing for a long time but have been out for some time and I can't remember. I thought I'd get a Gnome when I got my Gnome spell and didn't. I didn't know if I missed doing something I should have or if it was the norm not to get one. Thanks for any info on this.

There are prequests to getting Gnome pet and like the Forest Lord pet it comes as a separate quest and battle.
You must have completed the level 58 pet quest line to be offered the Gnomes one. It requires completion of Grizzlehime then Wintertusk to the last area and quest called Northilund Exposure, once you hand in this quest you can go see your teacher for the pet quest.
