leveling up pets

Can pets level up in battles, or do they just level up during pet games?

They can olny level up by pet games,and from pet snacks.

Just during pet games and when you feed them after the game.

the only way besides pet training games to level up your pet is to feed it the random clutter that builds up in your backpack. this does not always work though.

Not really "random clutter" mostly the good stuff.
