Hybrid pets

Why cant i use the card that my hybrid pet gives in battle. It says 9 pips

Wizards can only have 7 pips. Power pips count as 2 for your own school only. Without a Mastery Amulet, you can never cast a spell that is more than 7 pips outside your own school.
