Clarify pet stats plz

well I have maxed out my Pet ice colossus, yet it is only an ancient, do the bars go back down to 0/* after it lvls up? cause it takes 1000 xp, and it only gets little xp from the games 1 every 1-5 times i: plz help

Proffessors? Gamma? Owner of the area? Please explain this. I have read and reread the update page and couldnt find anything
