will i get to keep my pet when I hatch it?

I have been wondering what happens when I hatch with friends. Do I get to keep the pet that I first started out with and its son/daughter or do I just get to keep the son/daughter? just wanted to know for all of you hatching experts. Thanks please reply.

Yes, both "parents" remain.
