Why breed with max stats pet?

I just got my pet up to adult, and want to breed it to get a different pet type (mostly for the aesthetic but partially for the helpfulness and card). However, everyone says I should wait until my pet is max stats to try and breed. I just don't understand why, no one has been able to explain it to me and i dont understand why i should.

Higher stats make your pet's talents stronger. Boosts to damage, resist, accuracy etc depend on the pet strength, agility, will, power, and intellect.
