What is up with talking to your pet?

Ive always wondered whats the point in saying good boy or good girl to your pet after it heals you I mean really people think that makes the pet happy but its a game and it doesnt see wt your saying.

The reason many people do it is because many people believe if you do that it will have a bigger chance of casting sprite.

By the way, it doesn't work. All 'may cast' talents are totally random.
