What is a good pet for a Death wizard (level 20)?

Hi everyone. I'm fairly new to the game and so I'm not familiar with the intricacies of pet training/hatching. All I know is that I'd like to have a Death pet to go with my Death wizard (who is level 20, so I don't have a ton of gold or anything yet).

Any suggestions for something that is obtainable for me at this stage of the game? Do I even need to worry about a pet this early?

Also, I am asking purely for PvE. I don't care for PvP.

Thanks!

For now you don't need to worry but around CL you should be thinking about working on a perfect pet. Also make sure to get your crafting level up if you haven't (trust me, it will be important later)

Thanks!

Also, what/when is CL?

You can go without a pet that early in the game.
In Celestia, you can obtain the Jellyfish death pet from a quest, and when you get to Lv.58(?) you get the Scarecrow school pet. He's pretty decent for 1st gen death too. Else you can hatch at that level, for the perfect pet, but that's a long and arduous, yet satisfying journey

I have found that the Vampire pet (http://www.wizard101central.com/wiki/Pet:Vampire#axzz3mYufP2xv) is quite helpful for a death Wizard. The vampire spell it gives is stronger than the regular vampire, and the boosts to critical and damage also give you an advantage. I have also enjoyed playing with a Penumbra Drake (http://www.wizard101central.com/wiki/Pet:Penumbra_Drake#axzz3mYufP2xv) . I have some strong versions of both pets. If you wanted to hatch sometime, let me know. I'm not real regular on the boards anymore, but I'd be happy to set up a time to hatch, as long as you are not too worried about it being in a hurry. My death wizard is named Wolf Nightsong.

Thank you for the offer! How much gold would I need to hatch the drake? And would I need anything special as well, or can I use any pet I have?

Looks like it costs about 45,000 gold (or so) to hatch. You can use any pet that is an adult. If your pets are not yet adult, you have to spend some time playing pet games to level them up. If you have crowns, the mega snacks make this go much faster, but they do cost money.

Below are a couple links to help you understand the hatching process as well. If you know this already, then ignore it. But I found these very helpful when I started working on pets more intentionally for my wizards. Also, even though you don't want to do PVP, read the PVP pet guide -- it is a very good one, and the advice applies to any pet for any use, not just PVP.

So just bring whatever pets you have that are adult, and we will see what kind of a match we can make for a good hatch. Generally, you want the pets with stronger stats (Strength, Agility, etc.) -- above 200 if possible. It can also help to look at the possible talents in the pet gene pools, to see what kinds of talents you most want, and bring pets that have those possibilities. This pet page has information on all the pets: http://www.wizard101central.com/wiki/Basic:Hatching_Pets#axzz3mbjUotAh So look up the pets you have and see what seems best to you.

All we need to do is set up a day, time, and realm to meet in, and go from there. My schedule varies, and I am on east coast US time. Most evenings I can find time after about 8-9pm (and sometimes earlier), except Thursdays. Often I have a space on Monday mornings as well (I work tues-sat). But it really depends on any given week's activities.

Thanks. I'll have to spend some time reading about all this. The only pets I have right now are the first three everyone gets (the fairy, the cyclops, and the flying pig) and none of them are past baby. I haven't done anything with pets yet. Plus, I only have about 30k gold, so hatching probably isn't an option yet.

Ok. Well, good luck in your first forays into the world of Wizard pets! If you need help or have questions along the way, let us know here on the boards. The articles will tell you quite a lot though.

And when you are ready to try to start hatching, let me know and we can set a time to meet.

For that matter, if you just want to meet me in-game sometime to see how I have done my pets, I'd be glad to do that as well, even before we get to be ready for hatching.
