weird plague oni dungeon glitch?

hi-

i am supposed to defeat the plague oni , but the side of the dungeon that he is on is sealed off by a gate that i can't open. the lever doesn't work, and i can't activate it. it's a 1.5 hour dungeon, so i don't want to waste my time... what to do?

Head down the path to the dojo on the end. The boss inside might have a key, although he isn't going to just hand it over to you.
