plague oni?

Hey I'm level 40 and I defeated the plague oni to obtain the triton spell, but I have gotten a quest to defeat him again and I'm wondering if this is a bug or not

Defeating him is part of the main storyline quest as well as your spell. There are 4 possible occasions where you may have to defeat him:
