a ghost bug?

one day i was was going to fight fushiko for a cool amulet. so i lit one of the candles and a grief spectre appeared but it then went into battle itself without me getting pulled in. and the other ghost didn't join. so i stepped into the circle and the fight began. is this a bug?

i have no idea i never heard of a ghost bug
