Well first let me say im a older player with my son my fiance and nephew also playing! we all enjoy the game very much. Now onto the second chance chest problem i went to fight gurtok in the dragons roost to get my fire ring lvl 50 it has 188 health 170 mana and 15 pps ive tried to get it many many times with no luck so i figured that now with the second chance chest i should have no problem!!
Boy was i wrong i bought 25 dollars worth of crowns 13750 plus i already had about 3000 so 16750 crowns i should have no problem getting it well after spending all those crowns on the chest no ring im DISGUSTED. Ive spent alot of money on this game for me and my family but come on what is the point of the chests if you can spend that much and not get one ring????? i mean come on i got like 20 of the same thing over and over and STILL NO RING
Let me say this i work and can afford to spend what i did i know not everyone can purchase and spend crowns like that so it should be easier for someone like me doing this to get that loot i wanted i just cant believe that almost 17000 crowns and i didnt get the ring well i can tell you this i will not be doing that again it is a complete ripoff my advice to everyone just farm

I agree it is a total ripoff. Icannot afford crowns so do not buy them. However, in test, when they gave us crowns, I did one of the Mooshu second chance chests as the only drops I got were, as usual, were for specific schools only, and NOT for mine. Everything!! So I thought, ok, would try the second chance chest. I spent a lot of crowns on it and only kept getting other school specific items over and over and over and over, and not even good items, only very low level ones so trying to sell them won't get me anything either! And any gold was almost non-existant and of course, no crowns!!! So, yes, second chance chests are only a second chance for you to spend your crowns, oh, er, LOOSE your crowns for nothing.

Why is W101 reminding me more of the likes of a Tourist Trap for?
With its casino like ways of handling the finanses and way over priced
items which no one can buy because if you only get 5 dollors for your allowance. I mean :? why the 30usd for a perm mount! or the 90K in gold for the same mount! I WILL NEVER GET THAT because the game does not give you hardly if at all, any gold for killing normal mobs etc.
I will have to save until I reach level 43 or so (normal game play) before I will have (Im guessing) the 90K needed to buy my Mount! I will also have to FORFIT EVERYTHING meaning buying NOTHING no treasure cards, pets, wands, staffs, robes, hats, boots etc etc. until then.
thats is just plain WRONG! sniff and WHY can I NOT buy 800 Crowns for 1000 Gold for??? that is right there my dad says is a red flag
what ever that means. I will keep on pugging away though I have made it to level 15!! and died only 1000,000,000,000,000,000 Times!

Really! I believe in free market. Charge what the market bears. But I really don't think Jade Oni gives a sword that everyone is looking for all the time. He used to. Anyway I tried the second chance a lot and got junk too. But if you fool a million people even once with it, YOUR RICH!

I have never got anything from these chests on the 1st chance so I am not going to spend money buying crowns for a 2nd chance

There should be a threshold on farming and second chance chests.

On farming after 12 tries or after 3 second chance chests there
should be a pop up list like in a vendor, then PICK ONE ITEM of
NO AUCTION NO TRADE use for player. All items that creature
gives should be listed for picking.

I have to agree, the game is getting way too much of a tourist trap
and too many "Improvments" are just ways of parting you of your
hard earned money ... on JUNK!

I tried the Second Chance Truck once. It gave me a string of hot dogs! I didn't know whether to laugh or be mad. I probably could have got that in the Shopping District or the Bazaar. What a WASTE of Crowns.

Who else has gotten really stupid, worthless "prizes" from these things?

I must be lucky then...I tried it twice and both times it gave me the Level 50 gear for my character that I was trying to get in the fights in the first place.

And double lucky considering that although the gear I won in the fights wasn't for that character's school? Both items were of use for my new character when she reached that level. So I was able to put those in the shared bank and not have to worry about that character having to try for those specific items in the future.

It's just simply luck what get's pulled out.

KI must love you. No offense but you shouldve known not to spend that much.

If you had read what the chests do, its the same as battling the monster again and chancing the drop. It could take one battle, it could take 300 battles.
Even my son knows this. He on a RARE occasion will drop a few crowns into a chest and hope to get what he wants, but he knows one or 2 tries, after that its not worth it.
Dont get me wrong, I feel bad for you... but at some point didnt you think that the real money you were spending was not worth the item?

I do feel that second chance chest SHOULD have the option for in game gold... make it 5000 a try... but at least make it available to those who do not buy crowns.

LOL! It's called I wanted to see what it would do, since so many have been complaining about it. I had the spare crowns, so I tossed them in to see what they'd toss back.

I also tried out one of the henchmen for the first time today as well...It was ok but deffinately enjoy having a live person fighting by my side, that I can chat to...

Hubby bought the crowns for me to play with. So I played with them as he intended me to do when he bought them for me. And when it pulled up an item for my school in the first fight, hubby told me to try again with the next boss we faced. Just to see if lightening would strike twice. And it did.

Kinda like buying a lottery ticket. The odds aren't exactly in your favor, but it's fun to spend the buck to see what you 'might' win. And I just happened to strike lucky on the 'KI Lottery'.

I do enjoy battling for the items rather then the chest. But then again, I've never been much of a gambler in the first place. But had to try it a couple of times just to say I'd tried it...Just like PVP. I've tried it a few times, it's not my cup of tea, but at least I can say I DID try it none-the-less when asked if I've tried it. LOL!

Although I know that each time wouldn't result as such...Cause when hubby tossed in his both times? He got 2 crown items that he doesn't have a character for yet both times.

Like I said, it's all luck.

But since it's OUR money buying OUR crowns? Shouldn't it be myself and my hubby's choice of what to 'waste' the crowns on? Not yours or anyone else's to judge or dimenish? Afterall, you didn't pay for the crowns we used, did you?

Or are you now in the role of playing Crown Police to tell other adult members what they can and can't use their crowns on in-game?

And honestly, if a player has 50 crowns they want to waste in throwing in a chest, then that should be their choice. Not yours.

It just depends on your luck for instance, First time I tried to do the chest on Mal, I got the myth robe and a crate of chickens (btw what up with that?) then on my next run I got my ice robe on the first try my ring AND atheme also on the first try with the chest. It just depends on how lucky you are. Have you broken a mirror in the last 7 years?

I might use the second chance chest once in a while, but only once at a time. The price goes up after that and not worth the randomness of what you would receive.

I have gotten stuff for that wizard (or another I have) several times.

Wait a second... I am in NO WAY policing what anybody does with their crowns. Crowns are there to spend as you see fit :). But, I was specifically addressing the first poster. They are "disgusted" at the amount of money they spent trying to get an item.... All im doing is telling them it is their own fault. How can they be disgusted at KI for spending way too much? That would be like me saying that I am disgusted with NY state for not letting me win $25K on a scratch off ticket after I spent $25 on tickets! Get it :)

By all means, spend away.. it is your money... but dont complain that you didnt get what you want. A second chance chest is a gamble. The original poster seemed to fail to understand that there is no guarantee in getting what you want. Just like a scratch off ticket :)

Happy Holidays!

My apologizes then. Because you weren't quoting anyone I assumed your comments were directed at myself. And in the process, telling me I was foolishly spending my 50 crowns on a chance.

Now that you've explained your response better, to who it was and why the response I happen to agree with you. KI deffinately isn't making anyone throw their crowns in the chests. And if a person is tossing in crown after crown thinking that they're going to get what they want? Trying to blame KI for not getting the item they want specifically, is kinda silly.

Afterall KI isn't twisting their arms and forcing them to toss the crowns in. '2nd chance' doesn't make any claims to being 'guarenteed chance' to get an item one wants. It just means you get an instant non-fighting chance to get SOMETHING. Odds are that it won't be what you want. That's how luck works. Sometimes it's in your favor, most times it isn't. LOL!

Anyways, sorry for the misunderstanding. And a lovely Yule/Holidays to you and yours as well.

I find the Gurtoks, specifically the Fire Gurtok's second-chance chest(more-so than the Ice one,) to be more of a rip-off than ANY other second-chance chest I have tried. Even that boss itself on it's initial drop is getting really bad. I have had 8 wizards now and my first was a Storm Wizard and she has NEVER got her ring!
Seems like it's always easy enough for others to get that ring but I never have, even with my other wizards on the same account I can't seem to get it. And believe me I have done Malistaire at least 30 times or more, sometimes I even just go in for the Gurtoks since I really don't need anything from Malistaire, himself, anymore.

But I went in the other day for the Gurtoks, trying to get the ring again and I didn't get it in the initial drop...of course...so I went to try the chest, I didn't spend quite as much as you but I spent ENOUGH. Out of at least 7 items I got out of that chest there were NO level 50 RINGS of ANY type. But I sure got lots of junk that really you can get dropped almost anywhere else in Dragonspyre....like oh lets say the Final Orbit ring, which is "like" the level 50 death ring without the power pips.

This was not the first time that I got nothing of any use out of that chest. And I agree with the person who said that this is all very casino-like. That was the first thing I said to a friend when this first came out. It really is like a lottery as to if you will get anything decent and how much you will have to drop in the chest before it might cough up something good.

I have tried other chests and I won't say which I got good things from(including rare pets and swords) but I will say most chests are a lot more fair than this particular one.

I won't use that second chance chest again at the Gurtoks, it's just a complete rip-off and believe me I DO TELL EVERYONE I KNOW about this, so if everyone just tells their friends about it then maybe someday people will stop wasting their money in that particular chest...lol. It is best just to farm the Gurtoks and hope for the best. Hopefully someday my Storm wizard can finally be "complete" and get her ring! I find it very unfair how easily Balance items drops in there and everything else is not so easy to get.

clairification here you ARE spending more crowns than you usually would on those rip off cests than you would anything else BUT have you noticed everytime you get something the amout goes UP? it is 50+100+150+200=500 crowns for 4 times so it's easier to SAVE your crowns and just FARM without the use of those chests, I can understand TRYING it once or twice but as much as you describing it's your own fault it is luck you are right but it's not gambling cause the amout goes up and most of the time you don't get your money's worth. I say either make it a better chance KI or people stop complaining about WASTING YOUR crowns it is YOUR OWN FAULT.

How's it a ripoff? Nobody is made to use crowns. The mounts are also available for in-game coin. You can only buy so many houses, fit so much into and outside of them, so using the coins for something other then sitting in the bank is where the mounts come in.

Besides, you don't have to buy the mounts either. They aren't useful for battle, just something pretty to add to your character's outfit. They're a 'luxury' item that's optional whether you choose to use crowns or in-game gold to purchase with.

What's really "nice" is that they are now asking even MORE on the second chance chests!

While taking my eighth wizard to defeat Krokopatra and get her to Marleybone, tonight, after I defeated Krokopatra I looked at the chest, was going to throw in the 50 crowns, one time, for it just for fun....then I see it's now 75 crowns...not a huge increase, but still; that is just WRONG! Happy Holidays from KI, Young Wizards!

Also, as a minor note, I see we now can not ride our mounts in to the Royal Museum, not that it's a big deal, but just something I noticed tonight.

i love that people are still complaining about this. Listen, to all who feel that this is a rip off, you need to take a look at what it is.. it is a gamble.

As I said in an earlier post, if you buy a scratch off ticket, and lose... whose fault is it that your money is gone? yours. Second chance chests are the same thing as a scratch off, you dont always get what you want from it. :)

Gee...I don't think I was complaining about it Also never said I lost anything on that one.

I was pointing out that they RAISED the cost of the second-chance!
I know it is a gamble...duh! It's also my prerogative if I want to waste MY money on the gamble. I just think it's awfully greedy that they raised the price on the second-chance chests. Are they not getting enough from subscriptions, mounts, new housing(I could go on and on here)? Throwing 50 Crowns in the chest was sort of just a fun thing to do once in a while cause you never know; you might get something really good, but if they keep raising the cost of it; it doesn't really make me want to keep giving them anything.

I think all raising the price on the second-chance chests is going to lead to is less people using them or even wanting to use them, which actually means, KI, that you will EARN LESS in the long run.

I concur with everyone's opinion about being ripped off. I gave my kids and granddaughter a subscription as well as one for me. I have the means to buy crowns, but the young folk who play this game do not have that kind of money. My granddaughter is 11 and she surely cannot afford to buy crowns. I think I have spent well over 800.00 for crowns for myself and the kids since I signed everyone up in July.

This is getting a bit costly for a free on line game. I agree you need to make a profit, but gouging kids is not the way to do it. I have reached the end of quests for two wizards and now working on third.

The game is getting boring because you are spending more time on housing and mounts than you are in developing the game so it is expanding as we, the folk who pay for this, finish our quests. I seriously doubt I will renew if you don't come up with more areas for the spiral and less emphasis on us spending more than we should.
