Mana is the stuff you need to be able to cast spells - each spell has a number on it telling you how much mana it will take when you select the spell to cast. If you run out of mana you can only cast 0 pip spells.

Pips are the things at your feet that you also need to be able to cast spells. The number as above tells you how many pips you need at your feet to cast it - if you do not have enough pips the spell card will be greyed out. You always have a chance to get a yellow pip which counts as 2 pips for your in school spells.

To spend time waiting for pips you can - pass, cast blades, traps, shields, wands or any other 0 pip cards.

As you get a higher level you will be able to get gear that helps boost both mana and pips chances.

Yes there is a difference. You get pips by either passing, shielding, or using 0 rank spells. You know the rank because in the top left hand corner, a number will show. 0-10 means 0-10 pips, and X means all your pips. Mana kind of like pips. In the bottom of your screen, you will see a blue/ clear ball. The number on the ball is how much mana you have. If you run out and your globe reaches 0, you can't cast any more spells.

Glad to help!

There is, actually, a big difference between pips and mana. With Mana, you do not get every round, like you do pips. And you can only have pips during battle but with mana you get catch the wisps that float around.
