I am no pc wiz , but I would think if uninstalling/reinstalling the game didn't work , that the problem might be in the pc and not the game. Some of the things I might try , with the 3d render error , would be to run a dxdiag first, and see if it has any errors with that or files missing. To run a dxdiag , go to your start menu, in the search box type dxdiag and hit enter. It might take a few minutes to pull up , but you will be given a tool in which you can run a diagnostic test on your system , that will let you know if you have any errors with direct 3d. as well as a lot of other info. You might need to download another version of directx that can be found on microsofts website. The tool will also let you know what graphic drivers you are using , and the last time the drivers were updated. When I played this other online game , My nvidia card worked better with it on older drivers. It might have been your system automatically downloaded and installed new drivers , and the game might like the older version better , in that case , you would need to rollback the drivers. Not sure if any of this will fix the error , but it is a place to start eliminating the possibilities. I dont think you will lose your character , I believe the majority of that info is stored on the KI servers.
This error occurs usually as a result of the video settings not being correctly set. Please attempt both solutions - if you continue to receive the error after trying the below, we would recommend that you uninstall the game, your video card drivers and then update directX, install your video card driver and then reinstall the game. But first, try the below.
1. Make sure your Hardware Acceleration is set to Full
a. Open the Display Properties in the Control Panel. b. Click the Settings tab, click Advanced, and then click the Troubleshooting tab. c. Drag the Hardware Acceleration slider to the right (Full). d. Click Apply/OK and then click OK again. e. Restart the computer.
2. If the above doesn't work, please make sure your video drivers are updated

I just received this error. I have a separate monitor attached to my laptop. I right clicked on my desktop to bring up the monitor settings and double checked my refresh rate and it had set it self back to 60Hz instead of the 75 Hz required to run the monitor properly. After I changed the setting the game worked fine. FYI>>>
