How much scrap iron is needed to complete the Iron

I want to have it on hand before I start on the Ironworks dungeon....

You don't need scrap iron for the Ironworks dungeon, you need it for the crafting quest. Actually you won't find any scrap iron in Ironworks except
maybe one piece.

Anyway, the crafting quest requires about 40 pieces of scrap iron in total
to create the 10 required crafting items.

Good luck, you'll need it.

nope, you don't need any scrap iorn to complete the ironworks. you just need it when you do crafting :-)
