The storyline quests are sequential. The game should always give you the next one when you finish the one you're on, and it should appear on your list.
One time this won't happen is when you turn in a storyline quest and then decline the next storyline quest that is offered. If that happens, and you leave the area, it can be more difficult to figure out where to go next, because there's nothing in the quest list to guide you. Therefore, you should always accept storyline quests when they're offered.
