I, Katherine Lionrider, am an Archmage Pyromancer, I have completed the required previous pet quest, I have completed Avalon for Pete's sake! But I never recieved a notice from Professor Falmea, and when I went to Ravenwood to check in person, she had no quest for me! What's going on here?

You have not met all three requirements for this quest. You have some work to do in Grizzleheim before you can continue.

There are 3 requirements to meet to be able to accept the starting pet quests from your school professors in Ravenwood, Nightside, or Krokosphinx.
Each school has a different quest and each school has to fight a different boss in Wintertusk to get their new pets!

1. You must be a minimum of level 58
2. You must have completed your school’s level 48 spell/pet quest from your professors.
3. You must have completed the quest "Nordrilund Exposure" given by Grandmother Raven in Hrundle Fjord.

Once you meet all of these requirements, then you can go talk to your professor about getting a new pet! Talk to your same professors who you received your level 48 spell/pet quest from to get the quest…
Fire is quest “Like a Phoenix”
Ice is quest “Wings of Valor”
Storm is quest “Egg of the Storm”
Myth is quest “Frog in Your Throat”
Life is quest “Ready to Hatch”
Death is quest “Century Egg”
Balance is quest “Balancing Egg”

If you follow the main story line only in Wintertusk it actually goes quite quickly and there is not fighting at all that you have to do in the last area just fix a bridge to get to the talk to and you complete Northern Exposure. Some of the cave fights are a stretch solo but all in all each area only has a few main line quests before you go see Mother Raven for the next area.
