You probably had a network issue. This isn't necessarily your ISP's fault. If you get disconnected from the game, you can still appear online, but nothing will work very well. Eventually you get a time-out, and your interfaces will disappear, and you won't be able to move. The best thing to do is close the game and log back on.
If the no-battle issue happens repeatedly, send in a ticket to Support.
