It was like that before. If it's not now, it must have been from a recent update.. Not sure if that was intentional or if it was a bug. There are pros and cons to that - it's great if you can still level, but it stinks for those of us that are at the max level.
I'm really frustrated with the whole pet/plant shared energy thing. I was training pets on pretty much a daily basis before, but now I don't even have enough energy for the plants. :-(
