I'd like to craft level 55 robes and can't access the recipe vendor - would some kind soul be willing to let me port?

Your best bet is to hang around the base camp and beg for a port in, messages here are delayed so getting meet ups are difficult. I often port people into areas for assorted reasons accept for "I need to level my wizard up requests" these tend to annoy the wizards that are questing there because often they will jump into fights with others since they can not beat anything on their own.
