The Problem with Triage

I made a post recently that didn't make it through for some reason. So, am just gonna clarify some points as to why I think triage is too much good of a move and renders offense completely useless. First and fore most we got to understand why damage over times(dots) are so effective vs straight up damage spells and why its frequently use in the current meta. From poison to frost bite, fire dragon and many more, dots always seems to find its place as strong priority move but why? Well for one, it offers a fundamental mechanic to open up tempo and restrain the opponent from just shield spamming. Low dot spells gives room for players to set up variety of combos while keeping the tempo going and provides better offense when utilizing it with higher damaging spells.

Schools like myth, death and fire excels in this area, since they are high damage class to begin with and can utilize dot strategies more so than any other school. In this current meta , any one can pack nearly as much as 5-6 triage tcs or more if they wanted to and just nullify any damage overtime completely. I believe this perk should only belong to life school as a trained spell because they are essentially the weakest when it comes to damage but strong towards survivability. If triage is gonna maintain its place in pvp the pip cost needs to go up, or dot needs some kind of protection applied to prevent the opponent from just neutralizing offensive spells. In no way, shape or form a 6 pip or higher dot spell should just be completely nullified by a 1 pip spell. Shield cost 0 pips but only adds certain reductions when vs pierce. Spells like weakness also offers damage reductions but do not stop a damage completely from going through. Ban triage tc's pvp and see the outcome of classes there after, there will be a significant change in how schools are being played currently.

Why triage is a good thing

The Issue with changing the way triage works would break the game and make PvP one sided to Dot Schools. If a myth can do a double or triple buffed King Art What could a school like Storm with the least HP and Resists. Triage is barely a good move for a counter because it almost always leave a open shot for a big hit that schools have to worry about it being 1 pip gives other schools to be able to prepare and counter strats which is why there are so many close games. If triage were to get banned it would break the PvP system and i believe Myth would forever be the best school simply because they can do so much dmg and even shift any over time is thrown at them. No other school can touch a myth and Fire will come second to that. If Triage were to get a nerf lets say in pip cost That means Dots would need a very good nerf in Dmg in general. Lets take fire salamander for example it has too much dmg for the pip cost for it being a dot. Does as much as a Triton but with infinite pressure as a dot almost always doing 2k dmg as they infal blade mander. most of the time doing 800 a round and 400 through a shield. For this post should be "Why dots should be nerfed".

After some thorough research, it seems you have provided inaccurate facts pertaining to storm triton vs inferno salamander. They are no were near each other in terms of dps value because storm triton as a 6 pip storm spell does 795-875 or (1095-1175) with solar surge while inferno salamander does 200+630 over 3 rounds or (350+780) with solar surge over 3 rounds. Do you see the big gap in dps per spells? clearly triton is way stronger. For a dot spell to even remotely compare to a straight up damage spell it has to do the complete tick at 3 rounds total to have the equivalent damage of a full frontal spell. Here is where I see your arguments in terms of pressure a 3-4 buffed king art is gonna hurt if left alone but that's actually the same goes for a 3-4 bladed buff open storm king art that not even a shield could stop if your in strike your still going to take solid amount of damage.

If you can't triage a full frontal hit why should you be able to simply triage your way out of harms way? Playing too defensive should also be punished the same goes for playing too offensive, but being in a meta where its more offensive than ever before its no coincident these 6 pips spells are doing so much. You said the meta would be one sided to dot schools, I disagree because there are more elements that goes into pvp that just using dots. Brace defy and shields still exist at the cost of 0 pips. Most schools pierce aren't more than 30-40% base be lucky to even pass 35%.

Ward pets are still meta as well. Storm has strong capability of competing in the meta even without a dot, there is even a storm with 3k+ rank at max level pvp to even prove it. Triage is too good of a move to just simply neutralize a 6+ pip dot spells on the first tick. In most case players would just stack 2-3 of the same blade and just use the dot as a bait. If you were to stack 5 diff blades on 1 dot that's a diff story but its still similar to stacking on a regular non dot spell, especially if your using a forge goblin pet which am surprise isn't meta yet for all schools.

How would you counter traps then? Overtimes give too much pressure since there is a spell to get rid of all shields but there isn't one to get rid of traps.
