Hypothetical Situations

Let us suppose that the logical happened and Malistaire actually invaded Wizard City, ki-... eh, defeated Merle Ambrose and half the students and more than likely a few of the teachers, and took over Ravenwood.
Now that he has done that:

What do you think he would do next?
Do you think he would make the only school of magic available Death?
Would he bring back the Sunken City and/or sink the others?
Would he stay in Wizard City?
Would there be any form of pathetic resistance after he wiped out all the elite fighters?
Would Diego get to keep his job?
How would he deal with the Goblers?
What do you think his throne would be made out of?
How many servants would he have if any?
Would he allow wizards to get another haircut?
Do you think he would let them change their facial expressions for once?
What do you think he would do about player housing?
Would he restore Dragonspyre?
Will he conquer and move on?

Answer any of these hypothetical questions as I am curious what other people think and would enjoy pondering the logic behind some of the responses!

Nah, he would just be overthrone by a "bigger fish." Likely the Dragon Titan himself.

Let's face it, we've already been to worlds in the Spiral with more powerful enemies than him.

Scarey to think that something terrible is still coming to the Spiral.....

I actually don't think Malistaire would bother with Wizard City, after all, he just wanted to bring Sylvia back and was the only reason he went to all the worlds.

Spoiler Alert ( don't read if your not past Dragonspyre and don't want the storyline ruined )

Wizard City-Actually I don't know why he went to Wizard City except to cause mayhem to distract from his plans in Krokotopia ( I think Wizard City was basically meant to introduce the plot and as a place for Ravenwood )

Krokotopia- Malistaire attempted to retrieve the Krokonomicon and bring back Sylvia but didn't work due to the Marleybonians shipping it away

Marleybone-Tried once again to get the Krokonomicon by using Meowiarty to steal it due to the Royal Museum's protection of magic

Mooshu-Basically came here to steal the Dragonspyre Spiral Key, only unleashed the Oni's to attempt to "defeat" the Emperor

Dragonspyre-Needed the help of the Dragon Titan to help bring back Sylvia

So in conclusion I don't think Malistaire would bother with any of the worlds as long as he had Sylvia, he may have even tried to go back to Ravenwood if Ambrose would take him back.

I don't think the collapse of Wizard City would be at his hands. His plan was to demand the Dragon Titan to use its magic to bring back Sylvia; however, his grief blinded him from seeing that once the Dragon Titan was awoken it most likely wouldn't listen to him and cause a rampage throughout the Spiral. As nefarious as Malistaire is...I don't believe he's a true villain. He just needs some serious counselling.

Here would be my storyline:

The player defeats Malistaire, only to learn that the dangerous Morganthe is rising to power.

As the player plays through the second arc of worlds, the prophecy unfolds and eventually, in the world of Umbra, Morganthe plans to make the "sky" (spiral) fall. The player battles Morganthe, but when her health gets down to zero, she shows her true form as the Umbra Queen.

Then there is a cut to the Great Spyre. There is a cutscene (say what?) where Malistaire's and Sylvia's ghosts are escorted to the Dragon Titan's hideout. Malistaire's ghost has realized that bringing back Sylvia would leave the Dragon Titan with excess power that could be used to destroy the Spiral. However, he is now dead is well, so that extra power can be used to resurrect him. After he and his wife become alive again, there is a small bit of power left which Malistaire before the Dragon Titan can misuse it.

Meanwhile, Morganthe is attempting to destroy the player once and for all. As she is preparing her spell, Malistaire (who is now allied with Wizard City now that his objective [bringing his wife back] is complete) flashes into the battle and uses that last bit of power to rid the Spiral of Morganthe, this time for good.

Then, Malistaire and Sylvia return to Ravenwood. Malistaire brings the Death School up back into Ravenwood (of course this is only visible to players who have completed the storyline) and resumes teaching Death Magic. Sylvia appears in the Life School as an assistant to Moolinda Wu. Everything returns to normal after that.

Malistaire would make the Dragon Titan bring back his wife Sylvia, then he'd be back to the good side, while the Dragon Titan destroys anything in its path, and kills Malistaire then. The End... of the Spiral.

I agree with Akihiro- he's not evil, just sad (and yes, probably in need of some serious help). Strip away the magical elements, and you've got a bitter, heartsick old guy whose life has been turned upside-down by an unspeakable tragedy- the same is true for most villains, and that's probably why I adore them so much. That entire arc was brilliantly-written; beautiful, tragic, and very true to human nature.

Grief and anger are the two most raw emotions, because they allow you to see others at their most vulnerable. On top of that, love is a basic human need- if you lost the one person in the world who meant everything to you, you'd probably go to extremes to bring that person back, even if the odds were very low and/or it was at the expense of someone/thing else. Therefore, it's quite believable that he would go completely mad with power- wouldn't you?

Personally, I'd love to see Malistaire make a comeback- maybe, as someone on another board suggested, Morganthe could resurrect him and use him as a puppet/minion/thing, after which he would finally be forgiven by Headmaster Ambrose and allowed to return to Ravenwood. Then, poor Bartleby might get his eye back, and we could find out what actually happened to it; the lack or resolution there bothers me, but it keeps me hoping for another plot... *wistful sigh*

Were Sylvia not part of the equation, though, here are my responses to the OP's survey:

What do you think he would do next?
-probably the same thing I would do: just chill, gaze over the destruction, and go, "take that, good guys". Then go off and... well, ruin a few more people's lives; misery loves company.

Do you think he would make the only school of magic available Death?
-maybe, and torture/imprison/defeat anyone who dared to resist.

Would he bring back the Sunken City and/or sink the others?
-nah, too much work; if anything, the minions can do it for him. Besides, why would you want to plot death and destruction where other people could easily find you and k... er, defeat you?

Would he stay in Wizard City?
-uh, no. There are better places for conducting evil experiments on the masses, and DS is one of them.

Would there be any form of pathetic resistance after he wiped out all the elite fighters?
-maybe, but they would probably be disposed of quickly and quietly by the minions.

Would Diego get to keep his job?
-assuming he survived, probably not.

How would he deal with the Gobblers?
-feed their souls to the minions, create a new army, or enslave them for nefarious purposes.

What do you think his throne would be made out of?
-SKULLS. That would just be epic.

How many servants would he have if any?
-just the minions, and anyone who had skills that he could take advantage of for nefarious purposes.

Would he allow wizards to get another haircut?
-imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. So, no- never.

Do you think he would let them change their facial expressions for once?
-Maybe. But only if Chuck Norris called and asked for his facial expression back; otherwise, see above.

What do you think he would do about player housing?
-Players? What players? We would all be d... I mean, too busy hiding/plotting an escape/fearing for our lives to worry about housing. We'd be lucky if we got cells, like Marcel Meyow in MB did.

Would he restore Dragonspyre?
-again, why bother? Let the minions handle the grunt-work, but find someone to blame just in case they mess it up.

Will he conquer and move on?
-unless he decided to be a real jerk and just keep destroying stuff, "because I can", then yes.

:D

Do you think he would make the only school of magic available Death?
Of course not. How boring would the world be then? Malestaire likes a challenge

Would he bring back the Sunken City and/or sink the others?
I think he'd leave it all as is. Although I do see the Death school coming out of hiding.

Would he stay in Wizard City?
No

Would there be any form of pathetic resistance after he wiped out all the elite fighters?
There would have to be, wouldn't there?

Would Diego get to keep his job?
Heavens no!

How would he deal with the Goblers?
I think he'd have a nice chat with his brother. Maybe some Beano. ;)

What do you think his throne would be made out of?
bones

How many servants would he have if any?
As many has he deems necessary at the time. I wouldn't want to be the one who isn't needed anymore though! :)

Would he allow wizards to get another haircut?
yes!

Do you think he would let them change their facial expressions for once?
yes!

What do you think he would do about player housing?
I doubt that he'd be concerned. The Death house is awesome

Would he restore Dragonspyre?
*nods* I think he would. Dragonspyre restored would be amazing

Will he conquer and move on?
Not sure he'd conquer. I doubt he'd move on... he'd move from world to world still, just to supervise if nothing else.
