Good vs. evil wizards? Suggestion for KI.

The other day, whilst farming Malistaire, I thought of a cool idea:

In addition to their primary schools of magic, wizards should also have the option to choose between good and evil. Which side you align yourself with would then have an impact on your quests, rewards, and interactions with other NPCs- for example, an evil wizard would go up against Ambrose and company, instead of taking on the big M., or try and resurrect Sylvia... Stuff like that.

(I realize that this would take nothing short of a massive overhaul, but it would be pretty epic... I'm a huge fan of Malistaire's, and would love to be on his team, for a change. Playing the hero is great and all... but even good guys go bad once in a while; a broken heart is a nasty affliction, one that only time and tears (and maybe world domination) can heal. Instead of moping, why not hang out in a cave and inflict your rage on some unsuspecting vict- I mean, willing minions? Channel all of that negativity into more constructive (and fun!) pursuits, and watch your empire grow! It sure beats crying in a corner.)

Anyway... your thoughts?

This has been suggested so many times, and I just don't get it. Why is it necessary? Why is it worth KI's time, effort, and money to create this? Why is it worth my time to wait even longer for the next world so that KI can pull an entire other storyline out of thin air? It doesn't make sense to me.

What I don't understand is why KI spends time creating side-worlds that don't even fit into the main arc, when they could probably have increased the level-cap and built on the existing storylines. Yes, I like Wysteria, but... what does it have to do with anything else?

To quote the original post, I understand that it would require nothing short of a massive overhaul. Still, it's a feature that other games do have, and I think it would be an asset- more choices for the members keeps things interesting and would have the potential to reach a much-wider audience. It wouldn't require a new storyline; just a different perspective on the existing one. Heck, if KI really is that concerned about money (which I sincerely doubt), I'll write it for free.

It's not the plot that's difficult to come up with- it's all of the technical tweaks that would need to be made, which is why I totally get that such a setup is probably just a pipe dream. Still, the thread is for suggestions; whether or not you like it, it is one, and I'm putting it out there.

I totally agree. I've just about had it with KI adding these irrelevant storylines that have nothing to do with anything. I'm sorry KI, but the Everwinter in Wintertusk foolery wasn't necessary, and frankly I don't care about the Spiral Cup. I want another level to climb to, I wanna learn more spells that don't require me to complete some random world that I don't care about, and I wanna see something different! I never thought I'd say this, but I'm bored. I'm bored out of my mind. PvP is a horror, gardening is tedious, and pet training annoys to me to no end. For me, there is nothing interesting to do but level up my wizards, and even that gets monotonous after a while.

Rant aside, this idea wouldn't help very much. It definitely wouldn't work for people like me who already have six wizards unless chances to switch from evil to good and vice versa are worked into the game, which would take even more time to develop. You're adding a completely new aspect to the game, and you could write it for free, but there's no telling if whatever you come up with will be good. There's a lot that would go into this, both technically and creatively, and I don't think KI would be willing to drop everything and make this idea happen. Also, there are so many choices and combinations to make for wizards. I can't afford another choice being added to the game.

What I can't wrap my brain around, and forgive me for being brash, is the fact that you know this would most likely never happen, yet you made this thread anyway. It kinda annoys me since there are other threads in The Dorms that won't get the attention this thread will because people always flock to threads like these (even though this proposal is older than the game itself) and I think you've done this Forum a disservice. The Dorms are for suggestions, not "pipe dreams".

A LOT of people have suggested this. I think that it should be on a disk you can buy. It would be awesome.

But, this would add so much more to the game. It would mean adding new worlds and new quests would be DOUBLE the work, and with all this work put into the game, you would lag even more than usual. It'd be like Kingsisle starting the whole game over. I don't see why so many wizards seek to be evil?

Ten years ago, the very concept of this game would have been considered a pipe dream, too. There was, after all, a time where a computer was as big as a house and cost thousands of dollars... Obviously, someone found a way to make that concept a reality, so don't rule anything out until a tech-specialist at KI says, 'no way; this woman, and every person who agrees with her, is nuts'.

Perhaps I shouldn't have called it that. But I did, because one has to consider all factors in making a suggestion- obviously, I'm not a programmer, so what I consider to be a "pipe dream" might be completely doable, for someone with the right level of expertise. This was nothing more than a suggestion- if multiple people have already put this idea forth, as you've implied, then perhaps it isn't such a "pipe dream" after all.

I do have 18 wizards (between 3 accounts), only 3 of whom are over level 35, so I do understand that it would be frustrating for those who already have a full roster. I agree with the person who suggested that, perhaps, it could be available as an expansion of sorts- maybe KI could sell it via the crown shop, or on a separate disk. Again, this is an option that other games have, without any strain on their resources- from a marketing perspective, it would appeal to a wider audience and keep things interesting. I agree that gardening is annoying, and don't get me started on crafting...

You make some good points, but (in my humble opinion) it is your condescending tone and closed-minded attitude that have truly done this forum a disservice. As another poster said recently, it appears that kindness is in very short supply these days- perhaps it is time to move on.

Have a nice day.

Actually Toontown, a similar game to Wizard101, was released on Beta ten years ago, but that's beside the point. Yes, there was a time when computers were enormous and costly, and it took several decades for that to change. Even if KI considered your idea, I doubt it would happen any time soon. That's just my opinion. It's not a fact, just my opinion. I'm sure we'll be waiting on that tech specialist from KI for a while since they have this thing about explaining to people why things are currently impossible.

Whether it's doable isn't even my prime concern; it's time. It's all a matter of time and money. Adding this would mean around-the-clock work for KI's staff for the next couple of years. I'm not willing to wait all that time and have nothing added to the game in the meantime just for some unnecessary expansion to the game. If anything, they should make this a separate game, not add this to Wizard101. I know that other games have these options, which brings up a few questions:

1. Did those games add the good or evil option post-release of the game like KI would be doing?
2. Was it planned to be added pre-release of the game?
3. Why are you trying to make Wizard101 like other games in the first place? Wizard101 is pleasantly unique in my opinion, so suggesting it should be like every other MMORPG out there is kinda insulting and makes me think, 'If you wanna play those other games, go do that. What's stopping you?'

This move would be a game developer's version of a Hail Mary, which I strongly advise KI not to pull since their last few moves the past several months haven't been exactly great. Even if KI entertained this idea for financial and popularity purposes, I don't see them actually getting this idea into Beta without going bankrupt first. Speaking of popularity, by your rule, are usable beds and couches also possible to be added to the game? Proposals of those have also been very popular.

I'm not even gonna dignifying the last part with a response. I've apologized for this too many times to count, and quite frankly I'm sick of it. If you wanna think I'm condescending and rude, do so. I don't care anymore. It isn't your place to judge.

And a good day to you too.
