I figured out most of the tree's names.

Kelvin - Kelvin is a scientific measure for temperature

Bernie - Pun on burn

Ashley - Pun on ash

Blossom - Blossom relates to plants

Mortis - Latin for death

Ivan - Pun on eye, looks like a cyclops

Niles - Pun on the Nile River

But I don't get Torrence or Bartleby? Could somebody please help?

I can't think of a reason for Bartleby, but Torrence is probably a play on "torrents" of rain.

Torrence is a play on the word torrent, as in a torrent of water.

Well, Torrence is like torrent, which I'm pretty sure has to do with rain.
I have no idea on bartleby

um, Epamin, i meant, why are they named Torrence and Bartleby? I like the explainations given by VulpiJ, Af6at, and PyramidRune.

i did some research and found that bartelby:
was the name of two movies
the name of a website
a character name in two movies and a book
and the name of a book from 1853

so it could mean old if it was the name of a book written in 1853
(more to come)
