Earthquake under fire

Is it an oversight that earthquake clears the negative charms and wards on the opponent? I have always wondered about this because it makes earthquake the bane of most Myth wizards. It would help if the spell affected only the positive charms and wards. Most players in a fight don't want to destroy converts or other wards that not universal like fuels and other traps. The Mystic Colossus correctly removes positive wards only.

There are many fights when a myth boss has cast earthquake after a minion places negative charms on my wizard and it cleared the negative charms. Players might get angry that I point this out but, I would like to know the answer to this question It has always nagged at me playing the game for 10+ years.
