I wish there was a way to place your account on Vacation mode and this way if you have a garden or something like that it pauses while you are away.

It's not needed. Just visit your house once before you leave and make sure all needs are taken care of. When you come back, no matter how long it is, everything will be fine. It will advance to the very beginning of the next level, but won't get any needs and cannot wilt or die while you're away.

That would be really nice. People always say plan around your vacation but sometimes things can come up unexpected.

There's nothing unexpected. You either leave the game with needs or you don't. Plants will never wilt or die unless you visited them and left them with needs. You have to actually choose to do that. If you have wilted or dying plants you visited your home and chose to ignore the yellow/red warning.

Sometimes people just do not like to come back and see dead/wilted items that they need to revive.

By unexpected I meant something like an emergency irl.

I think you missed the point. You cannot wilt unless you logout with unattended needs. You cannot die unless you logout with unattended wilted plants AGAIN. You have to purposely visit your garden, not attend them and logout for a day. Then next time you login you have to visit your garden again and ignore the needs again and logout for another day. If your garden had needs last time you logged out and you don't want to deal with it, don't visit it and they won't wilt. If they were wilting last time you visited, don't visit them until you plan on dealing with needs. You have to visit your garden multiple times while ignoring the needs every time for plants to start wilting let alone start dying and actually die.
