Balance must not get a prism. If it did, there would need to be a "balance shield", which would both be a pain and negate the uniqueness of the school. Balance doesn't need a prism. It has other ways of getting around same-school resist. It's the only school that can do damage of other types directly without needed mastery or training of off-school spells. That's special and cool. Play balance like balance, don't make it something else.

The idea is similar to the idea of the elemental blade and shield and the spirit blade and shield so it actually does fit quite well into the balance school. Also, the other school balance spells that aren't shadow aren't really that amazing in damage.
