Training doesn't influence what talents your pet learns. Will and other stats don't matter to may-casts.
You have a 50/50 chance of getting Spritely on a first generation Starfish, so you could try with a new one, or hatch with a pet that has it. If you hatch with a pet that has it, the baby may be more likely to get it, but remember: there are no "sure things" with pets. A lot depends on luck, so sometimes you have to keep trying.
