He's a mad scientist, right? He oversees the hatchery? I suggest he gain a new ability - morphing pets.
It would work like stitching does for clothes:
Pick one pet you like the looks and animations of. Pick one pet you like the talents and abilities of. Morph the two, to create a new pet with the looks of one and the talents of the other. The original pets are removed from your inventory and you're left with the new pet. Unlike stitching, however, you can't undo the change.
